I give away freebies to strangers, guild mates and friends. Gave a lot so far, but I don't feel like bragging. I help when I can to improve this community!

On occasion, I'll make up "starter packs" with a bag, rune of holding, a weapon, and some other gear and give them out to new players. Maybe make a game of it.

In general, I try to target those that are new to the game, and not just someone with a vault filled with goodies who's looking for a free handout. It's my way of welcoming people to Guild Wars.

Anyone else?
Ive bin doin that for a long time, started with the fiery dragonswords.
They where as flies on me These days it more like anwsering questions.
I hand over some weapons but how strange it might seem.
the people I gave it recently are asking for more thil they finisht the game.
And that is not the intention of it. So I quit giving things away.

Its more when something is askd in lokal chat that I reply on that.

last night i didnt pay attention to how many claws i bought for Nickolas. So when he only took 10 for the gifts i really didnt feel like reselling them. Not rich but im doing good. So i had a little Questions for Claws and who ever got the question right i gave them my claws. It was a total hoot! And I enjoyed it very much.

@Siadina : Good idea, might do that next time

Giving money here is just like giving it away IRL, it usually ends up in the wrong hands. If you need advice, hints, or a small but nasty run (getting to Dunes can be tough when you're fresh in the Desert), i'll gladly help. If you shout "I need money, someone donate 1K plzzzz!", you can bugger off.
The only time i'm giving away good stuff is when i see someone struggling with their not-so-good weapons in a mission. If someone convinces me he/she is willing to learn, and doesn't Leeroy, i don't mind doing the next mission with em, help them with skill advice, or hand em some candy (cupcakes + canes are useful when doing nasty missions with newbies)

I never offer anything for free, and never give anything to free to people who ask. But for those who don't expect it to be free I like to offer it for free

I sometimes give away golds and greens and other items to randoms in LA. Usually depends if I need the chump change from merching the golds or not.

Other giveaways are reserved for game friends or guildies.

Lemme put it from a new guys perspective. Im an l6 warrior/elementalist. I am still trying to figure out the game and make sense of it. Im not the one who will beg or ask for stuff just to make my gaming experience easier. I am one who gets enjoyment out of figuring out how to get the most out of a game. Begging and asking some of the older dudes for favors is childish. The only way your gonna get far in the game -- and in life -- is to figure it out for yourself. I dont beg or ask favors or for items from people and I wont take any charity either.

I do wish more people would learn these simple two words: "THANK YOU" They're so easy to say and they make a big difference. I vanquished Daalda Uplands the other day and had a boatload of stuff to give away. Only ONE person, a Mesmer to whom I gave a nice blue wand, said "Thank you". Now I think I'm going back to selling stuff.

I *used* to collect all the unwanted golds from keg farming and to give to new players in ascalon city. Reason i stopped doing this..? You guessed it. Only a few of them thanked me for it, most just took the gold and then logged off without saying thank you, or just continued with what they were doing and didn't say a word. Though, i pmed some people after, saying "yeah.. your welcome anytime..?" I do remember a couple thanking me after i said that, but only a couple. (rolls eyes)

That's so true. People are more likely to continue behavior if it's reinforced positively. If someoone goes out of their way to do something that they don't necessarily have to do (give out weapons/gold or answer questions and give directions), they're more likely to keep doing it if they get a simple "Thank you". Sure, it feels great to help someone out, but to be appreciated for it with those two words is really encouraging.

i just gave away 50ish minis (mostly unded) to new players in ascalon, shingjae and chahbek

it was... very weird because i got tackled by 10 people trying to open trade at the same time. and endless pm spams like "can i pick?", "can i have 3?", "which mini pets?"...

but ofcus, some of them asked nicely and said thanks.

whatever, im glad i got some storage space now.

I completely agree. I really hate how ungrateful so many people are. It takes a couple of seconds to say thank you, and it shows appreciation. I'd probably still help out strangers if the majority of them appreciated what I did. But, when I used to help out strangers, they rarely said thank you, so I stopped.

I like to yell "YOUR WELCOME" whenever that happens. Works well in AC where they cant run & hide...

Otherwise, its very hard to spend your time & effort on people who don't appreciate it, which goes a long way towards explaining why people don't help others out more. Nothing is free, not even charity (which is remunerative in terms of the gratitude & goodwill it earns you).

I used to give things away all the time. Help people on missions, go out of my way to help someone on that one annoying quest. But like someone said earlier, the begging, thanklessness, and even people telling me the FREE stuff I was giving away wasn't good enough for them, makes me jaded. And yes, that's truly sad. I enjoyed helping people. Now I cringe at the thought of it

I sell items at a fair price, below market value, for two reasons, one, to move the merchandise, second I don't have the time to wait for a buyer. I could careless who buys the stuff, as long as I make the sale. Otherwise I help guildies out, but strangers or newbs, sometimes if they are truely a newb. so hard to tell sometimes
